I don't like search history

I don’t want search history! Remove this BLOAT/feature-creep or I’ll be forced to clear it manually until the ends of time!!!
Who wants to search the same thing multiple times anyway?

Alt title: F-Droid basic not basic enough.

Don’t be so rude. You only need to ask nicely and maybe you’ll get a better response.

Why are you so angry and for a simple thing? Also, many people do search same thing over time.

My Tubular app shows that. I keep a small list of typical searches. Heck, other apps can benefit from such search lists.

I’m not really angry, just seemed like a funny feature to be angry at. I just don’t see why anyone would want to search for the same app over and over again.

@ArceusI F-Droid is kind of like youtube/tubular, in a sense you can subscribe to channels / download apps and they appear in a special feed. And that’s it, you no longer have to search for that app/channel. Or are there people on F-Droid who weekly (DAILY?) search for new VPN apps?

If you don’t like a particular feature, don’t use it. Simple.

Loads of apps with search boxes show history to some extent, so the user experience is consistent. Personally I don’t mind it, as I may want to revisit a search for an app that I may not have installed yet.

I don’t think an app should have some feature just because other apps have. However, if you search for an app, it would imply that you have the need for such apps, and therefore, you are statistically more likely to search for it again, especially if you don’t like the first one installed.

I hear you, but from a user experience design standpoint, having a good level of consistency increases an app’s audience when considering there are users that are not advanced as ourselves.

I can hand on heart say I’m nowhere near advanced as a lot of users in this forum.

Anyway, to the point. There’s no harm in making a user request to toggle the functionality on or off, to suit our tastes (I like it on). I think this is a valid use request. Not sure what the process is here to present the request.
