Do Americans really have a choice other than google and facebook?
When it comes to log-in, Do Americans really have a choice other than google and facebook!?
It has become popular for sites like gmail to ask for a phone number in addition to a username and password. Is it really necessary?!
I think they are more for identification purposes than anything else.
They want to know who you are. Well, that’s a red flag.
I never use those “log in with…”. Nearly all services provide the option to create a username for that service. I also do not provide my phone number (nor any fake number) to any service that shouldn’t have a reason to contact me.
As far as other options for OAuth or OpenID, I have seen services provide options to login with Amazon and Github.
Here in Europe they all spam with that Log in with…
I was deceived few times for quick and easy access but then awoke: hey, whats going on? One ring to rule them all?! F.ck off!
I’ve removed all connections and recently used only Github and Thunderbird. The second one didn’t provide any other way to use Gmail account (understandable as a Gmail replacement).
Everywhere I can I try to use login name / email and password.
Why do you think you don’t have a choice?
